• First Look at Man of Steel Interior Art by Maguire, Reis & Prado
    Mar 13, 2018

It was last month that we learned longtime Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis’ first full-time project at DC Comics would be a six-issue weekly miniseries titled Man of Steel. Now, DC is giving readers their first look at some of the interior art, featuring pages by Ivan Reis, Joe Prado and Kevin Maguire.

The first page, by Reis and Prado, comes from Man of Steel #1 and depicts Superman hovering in front of the Daily Planet before bulleting forward through Metropolis. The second page, by Maguire, is from issue #4, which shows Kal-El and his cousin Supergirl battling an imposing alien foe high above the city.

Exclusive! This is a finished page from Man of steel number one. Not seen by human eyes outside the DC editorial office. By the amazing @ivanreisart @joeprado2017 #dcbendistakeover #dcsxsw18

Bendis’ first DC Comics work overall will be a ten-page Superman story in Action Comics #1000, illustrated by Jim Lee. “It’s not just some random backup story or flight of fancy,” Bendis said last month. “It is a major chapter in what we’re doing, with some really big bombs we’re dropping in Superman’s life — and two of them happen right there in Action Comics #1000. So it’s a huge tease of what we’re doing and what’s coming up in Superman’s life.”

Following Man of Steel, Bendis will write both Superman and Action Comics. The former will relaunch with a new #1, while Action will continue its numbering, with Bendis’ first issue being Action Comics #1001.

Man of Steel will look back on the life of DC’s preeminent superhero. A prelude chapter will be released on May 2 as part of the DC Nation #0 sampler, illustrated by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, before the miniseries kicks off on May 30.

In addition to Reis, Prado and Maguire, illustrations for the miniseries will be handled by such all-star artists as Evan “Doc” Shaner, Ryan Sook, Adam Hughes and Jason Fabok.
