• The Script for Action Comics #1001 Is Complete
    Mar 14, 2018

Next month marks a major milestone for not just DC Comics but for the entire comic book industry, as Action Comics reaches its monumental 1,000th issue. However, the celebration doesn’t stop there, as longtime Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis begins his highly anticipated run on the series with Issue #1001 — an issue he just completed the script for.

On Twitter, Bendis revealed that he “just handed in the script to Action Comics 1001,” commemorating the momentous achievement with a classic Super Friends GIF. Of course, simply handing in a script might not seem all that exciting on the surface, but, as Marvel writer Jim Zub puts it, four-digit comic books are far from the norm.

You kids and your 4-digit comics… Back in my day, we had 3 digits and liked it!

Bendis’ first DC Comics work overall will be a ten-page Superman story in Action Comics #1000, illustrated by Jim Lee. “It’s not just some random backup story or flight of fancy,” Bendis said last month. “It is a major chapter in what we’re doing, with some really big bombs we’re dropping in Superman’s life — and two of them happen right there in Action Comics #1000. So it’s a huge tease of what we’re doing and what’s coming up in Superman’s life.”

Following the six-issue Man of Steel weekly miniseries, which kicks off on May 30, Bendis will write both Superman and Action Comics. The former will relaunch with a new #1, while Action will continue its numbering, with Bendis’ first full issue being Action Comics #1001, which arrives July 25.
